The First Reunion for Korean APTE Participants, ‘Networking Day’ held

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Asia-Pacific Teacher Exchange programme (hereafter APTE), alumni teachers gathered in Seoul and Busan on August 8-9 and 11-12, respectively.

Networking Day event was held to set a cornerstone for further development of APTE  by strengthening the networks of alumni teachers. Hyeonmook Lim, Director of the UNESCO APCEIU, and Yeseul Hwang, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Education Korea, joined for the opening ceremony. Seongil Lee, supervisor of the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education, and Sohye Lim, Senior School Supervisor of the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, also attended to encourage teachers.

The main event started with the best practices presentations of follow-up activities. The presenters consisted of whom experienced APTE in multifarious ways. Teachers who experienced face-to-face exchange, teachers who participated in both face-to-face and online educational exchange, and others who have been mentor teachers of the invited teachers for a long time presented their follow-up activities.

The next day, two group activities took place. In the first activity, teachers who have experienced APTE with the same partner country formed a group to share personal experiences and deep sympathy. In the second group activity, the teachers were divided by the school level, elementary and secondary, to find diverse methods to develop the follow-up activities in the classroom. In addition, they jointly created lesson plans and follow-up activity plans to share ideas and propose various action plans.

The Asia-Pacific Teacher Exchange for Global Education(APTE) Programme, hosted by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea and implemented by the APCEIU, is a bilateral teacher exchange programme. It started with two partner countries in 2012, the Philippines and Mongolia. Now, it is extended to seven partner countries, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Thailand.
