On the 2023 APTE(Asia-Pacific Teacher Exchange for Global Education Programme) launching, APCEIU held a Consultation Meeting with Host Schools and MPoEs(Metropolitan and Provincial Offices of Education) on February 24.
Korean mentor teachers and school principals from 13 host schools, where invited teachers from Laos, Mongolia, Cambodia, and the Philippines would teach during the first half of the year 2023, and officials from MPoEs joined the on-site meeting.
At the opening ceremony, Lim Hyun Mook, director of APCEIU, noted the significance of APTE as part of Education for International Understanding (EIU) and global citizenship education (GCED), emphasizing that communication with teachers from different backgrounds through this Programme could be an effective first step to broaden the scope of empathy worldwide.
An overview of the actual activities of Korean host schools was then provided through presentations of best practices. Kim Yong-han, former principal of Yongin Gangnam School, shared his experiences at a host school for seven years, from 2013 to 2019. He stated that the APTE Programme is a process that helps students and teachers overcome exclusivity. Park Ji-Hye also shared her experience as a dispatched teacher in Cambodia in 2019 and as a mentor teacher for invited teachers after returning to Korea. She said that this Programme not only helped expand her competency as a teacher but also positively impacted students' intercultural understanding and global citizenship awareness.
A detailed implementation plan for the 2023 APTE Programme was presented in the afternoon, followed by a separate orientation session for the host schools and the MPoEs officials. During the orientation, the host school staff was provided with guidelines for supporting invited teachers, along with a brief Q&A session. In this consultation meeting, the host school and MPoEs staff, who play a crucial role in the APTE Programme, developed a more solid implementation system for future Programmes by improving their understanding and collecting their opinions.
Hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by APCEIU, the APTE is an international education exchange programme between Korea and Asia-Pacific countries. In 2023, offline and online exchanges will be held in cooperation with seven partner countries. (Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines)
