APCEIU conducted a two-day pre-departure training from July 13 to 14 for Korean teachers participating in the 2023 Asia-Pacific Teacher Exchange for Global Education(APTE), who will be dispatched to Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and the Philippines in the second half of this year. The 34 in-service elementary and secondary school teachers who participated in this training had an opportunity to comprehend the APTE Programme, learn about the country to be dispatched, and improve their local adaptability.

The first day of training started with an ice-breaking session, followed by a guide on Global Citizenship Education(GCED), the APTE Programme, and the role and tasks of dispatched teachers. Several APTE Alumni teachers who had previously been dispatched shared their experiences so that new participants could learn and ask questions.

The next day consisted of a variety of programs to help local adjustment, including tutorials on how to use NETS, sessions on comprehensive sexuality education, and health and safety education. At the launching ceremony, the participating teachers also shared their expectations about the local activities and their resolutions for the successful completion of the programme. Teacher Kim Myeung Hee, who will be dispatched to the Philippines, wrote in the ‘postcard to myself’ that "I hope to rediscover my passion as a teacher in a new environment.” Also showed her excitement by saying, “ I wish to adapt well to the new school, get along with the students and fellow teachers, and return home to my school with even more energy and enthusiasm."

Teacher Hwang Sung Hwan, who will be dispatched to Cambodia, shared his goal by saying, "I promise to respect my students in the host country, deepen my understanding of multi-cultural education, satisfy my students and school stakeholders with well-prepared lessons and utilize the dispatch experience in my Korean school."

10 teachers to Malaysia and 8 teachers to Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines, respectively, will depart in mid-August to work at local schools for about three months. In collaboration with local partner teachers, the Korean teachers plan to instruct regular subject classes integrated with GCED, Korean language and culture classes at the host schools.
