APCEIU held a Local Adjustment Training and Welcoming Ceremony for 26 teachers from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

The Training was arranged to help the invited teachers adapt in the early stages of their stay in Korea and improve their understanding of the 2023 Asia-Pacific Teacher Exchange for Global Education (APTE) programme, which took place at APCEIU for four days from 22 August followed by online training.

On 22 August, 26 teachers from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand opened their bank accounts and mobile phones, and participated in an orientation which provided a comprehensive overview of the entire local adjustment training schedule. The Training on the second day consisted of sessions such as Introduction of APCEIU and APTE, Introduction to Teachers' Manual and Assignments, NETS Website Guide and Guide to Mores in Korean Classroom. Real-time live-streaming was provided for Malaysian teachers attending online.

On the following day of the training, the schedule included a lecture on Global Citizenship Education (GCED), an Insurance Usage Guide, presentations by APTE Alumni teachers who had previously been dispatched, and a session for creating lesson plans for teaching activities. This session's goal was to prepare and present lessons on GCED themes such as 'Save the Earth,' 'Inequality in the Classroom,' and 'Embracing Differences' in real Korean classrooms."

A Welcoming Ceremony took place on the last day of the training, which about 50 people attended, The Embassy of Indonesia in Seoul, the Ministry of Education of Indonesia, the Ministry of Education of Thailand, the Embassy of Malaysia in Seoul and the Ministry of Education in Malaysia, who participated from online and Korean Metropolitan and Provincial Offices of Education, Korean host schools and APCEIU. Starting with the Welcoming Remarks by Mr Lim Hyun Mook the director of APCEIU, the Congratulatory Speech by Mr. Gogot Suharwoto from the Embassy of Indonesia in Seoul, Cultural Performances by the invited teachers, and the meeting between the Korean mentor teachers and the invited teachers followed the welcoming ceremony.

Mr Lim Hyun Mook, Director of APCEIU, started his remarks by saying “Language barrier and cultural difference might be your first challenge at Korean school. But I believe it is a meaningful step for not only the invited teachers here, but for your Korean fellow teachers and students to broaden and deepen the understanding toward different cultures.” He finished his welcoming remarks with “I’m certain that the time you spend in Korea will be one of the most valuable experiences and memories in your life.”

Mr. Gogot Suharwoto, the Attache of the Education and Culture from the Embassy of Indonesia in Seoul, started his speech by mentioning the significant role of APTE as a medium for teachers to develop a global perspective on education, and learn about educational systems, policies, and practices in Korea. “This insight can contribute to the improvement of the Indonesian education system by adopting effective strategies and best practices from Korea. Teachers returning from the exchange program can contribute to the diversification and enrichment of the curriculum in Indonesia.”

The invited teachers from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand are expected to work in Korean host schools for approximately 3 months, conducting specialized courses integrated with GCED, as well as classes on their own language and culture.
