Mid-term Monitoring for the Korean Teachers’ Activities in Mongolia and Lao PDR

Mid-term Monitoring for the Korean exchange teachers participating in the 2023 Korea-Mongolia Teacher Exchange Programme and Korea-Laos Teacher Exchange Programme was conducted from 19 to 28 April.

On 19-20 April, APCEIU staff, accompanied by personnel from the Ministry of Education and Science of Mongolia (MEdS Mongolia) and the General Authority for Education (GAE), visited Gun Galuutai Complex School and School No.15 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to observe how Korean teachers are conducting the classes and sharing teaching methods with colleagues. Korean teachers are teaching the subjects of their specialty for the schools’ regular classes as well as the Korean language as extracurricular classes. Local teachers and students expressed interest and satisfaction in having Korean teachers in their schools. In the consultation meeting between APCEIU, MEdS Mongolia and GAE, the development of the Programme was discussed.

After completing the dispatch to Mongolia, APCEIU staff headed to Dongkhamxang Secondary School and Phiawat Secondary School in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on April 28th. APCEIU visited schools with officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports of Lao PDR as well as the Lao National Commission for UNESCO to observe Korean teachers' classes.

Two teachers at the Dongkhamxang Secondary School offered interesting classes by integrating their major subjects, English and Earth Science, respectively, with Global Citizenship Education.

Other two special education teachers at the Phiawat Secondary School conducted activity-centered classes for students with disabilities, such as ‘Upcycling plastic to make it as a vase’ and ‘Using Korean currency to buy Korean food’, in which students actively participated. After the class, a meeting was held between the personnel from each school, the Ministry of Education and Sports of Lao PDR, the Lao National Commission for UNESCO and APCEIU to discuss the direction of the programme in the near future.

Currently, a total of eight teachers are being dispatched to four schools in Mongolia and Lao PDR, where they teach the subjects of their specialty integrated with Global Citizenship Education as well as Korean language and culture for about three months.

Starting with the Programmes in Mongolia and Lao PDR, the APTE Programme resumed on-site exchange after three years of the online programme due to COVID-19. Dispatch to Thailand will begin shortly in May, followed by Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines in August.
